Places to Visit

Priego De Cordoba

This prosperous olive-farming town stands on a plateau overlooking the rolling hills of the Subbética Mountain Range, and is famous for its baroque churches.  The old town is built around the Arabic castle at the edge of the escarpment.

The interesting sights are clearly signposted and there are an abundance of tapas bars and pavement cafes to keep you topped up while people watching and catching your breath.

Cordoba

Romans, Arabs, Jews and Christians left their mark on the city of Cordoba with monumental buildings, works of art and advanced infrastructure. As a result, the historic centre of the city brings a valuable cultural legacy declared in 1994 as a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Take in the many sites and take in a Flamenco show in one of the intimate venus in the jewish quarter.

Granada

Luque

Luque 

On the fringes of the rugged Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park is the attractive village of Luque, which is perched on a rocky outcrop and crowned by a castle, with some of its Medieval defensive walls still standing.
Subbética Viva has details of walks and guided tours in Luque and the surrounding area. You can follow the Vía Verde of the Subbética, a former railway line, on foot or on a bike from Luque west to Zuheros or east to the Laguna del Conde.

Zuheros

ZuherosIdeally situated on the fringe of the Sierra Subbetica Natural Park Zuheros is now becoming a popular base for walkers and painters, The village is also famed for its cheese factory Las Balanchares, locally bred goats from the Sierras provide the milk for this internationally known product. Cheese can be bought directly from the factory.

Carcabuey

Carcabuey 

The castle of Carcabuey was built in medieval times and houses the hermitage of the Virgen of María Santísima del Castillo de Carcabuey. When you visit this hermitage notice the paraphernalia hanging about on the walls, crutches and other items that have been cast off by those who no longer need them.Yes, this virgin is believed to have performed numerous miracles and she is revered by the local community.

Casa Alta is a tall house in the small whitewashed village of EL Esparragal within the Subbetica Natural Park. The park is the home of many species of birds ie Griffon Vultures, Bonellis Eagles, Peregrine Falcons and Golden Eagles to name but a few. The House

Casa Alta was built in the 1940’s and has been lovingly updated. Boasts thick stone walls, that aid in keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

The entrance, hall, lounge and dining room all retain the original art deco tiles.

All of the bedrooms have fans and we have central heating for those cooler nights in winter.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the facilities in the beautiful guest lounge, including a TV with free-view, a DVD player and also a selection of board games for the more competitive guests. Free Wifi is available throughout.

Luque

A double room with a double bed and a very large bathroom, including double sinks, a large shower and separate spa bath. Double window doors opening out onto the countryside view and another window looking out over the pool and patio.

All the bedrooms in Casa Alta are bright and airy and have ceiling fans, whilst boasting luxury bedding and duvets for the cooler months.  They have full length double windows to let the mountain air blow through and pretty Juliet balconies where you can sit, relax and enjoy the village along with the beautiful views, sipping your favourite tipple.

All the bathrooms come supplied with hairdryer, shampoo and shower gel, also supplied are bath and pool towels.

Luque has a bath along with a separate shower.

Our aim is to provide a comfortable night’s sleep at Casa Alta.

Priego

A double or family room, with a double and single bed. Large bathroom with shower and typical andalucian double sinks. Double full length windows opening out to views of the stunning countryside with Juliet balconies.

All the bedrooms in Casa Alta are bright and airy and have ceiling fans, whilst boasting luxury bedding and duvets for the cooler months. They have full length double windows to let the mountain air blow through and pretty Juliet balconies where you can sit, relax and enjoy the village along with the beautiful views, sipping your favourite tipple.

All the bathrooms come supplied with hairdryer, shampoo and shower gel, also supplied are bath and pool towels.

Priego has large en- suite bathrooms with double sinks and walk in Morrocan style showers.

Our aim is to provide a comfortable night’s sleep at Casa Alta.
